How to add a shop to a Discord server this afternoon

Storefront module connecting to a community server

Adding a shop to a Discord server is a short job if you stop treating it like a website launch. You need the bot in the server, PayPal able to take a payment, and one product a person can buy. Colors and coupon codes can wait until someone has paid.

This is the order that avoids the usual dead ends.

1. Invite the bot to a server you manage

Review the bot's requested installation permissions. In the selling/order channels, allow it to view, send messages and embed links. For paid roles, enable Manage Roles and place the bot above the intended role; Administrator does not bypass role hierarchy.

There is no /invite command. If a guide from 2023 tells you to type one, ignore it.

2. Sign in and open that server

Login is Discord. The dashboard lists servers where the bot is in and you can manage them. If the server is missing, the bot is not in it, or you are not an admin there. Signing out and back in refreshes the list.

Create a live app at developer.paypal.com and save the Client ID and Secret under Payments. Sandbox is only for fake charges. A store with products and no PayPal looks open and fails on the first Buy.

4. Make one product you can explain in a breath

Name, price, image, delivery type. File or link for a download. Key if you have a list of codes. Role if you are selling access. Manual if you still have to do the work by hand. Save it as active.

Free lets you have 3 active products. Deactivate one if you need the slot. Deleting is optional. Deactivating hides it and frees the slot.

5. Type /store in a channel the bot can post in

You should see the product and a Buy button, plus a link to the public page at cartcord.com/store and your store name. Pin a one-line message: type /store to buy. That is the whole launch post.

Review readiness in the store Overview, then use a dedicated buyer account and a merchant-approved test process to verify the intended payment and delivery. Production requires Live credentials; do not switch a customer's store into Sandbox. Never ask an already-paid customer to buy again to diagnose an uncertain payment. Keep any test refund separate from real customer support.

What you can skip today

Themes, store docs, and coupons are Pro features. They make a busy store easier to run. They do not make the first sale happen. Fraud review and signed webhooks are Enterprise. You do not need them to sell a preset pack to your own members.

A channel for the shop is worth making, named something dull like #shop. The bot needs to read, send, embed, and use slash commands there. If /store does nothing, it is usually permissions in that channel or Discord still caching commands. Try another channel, wait a few minutes, and check the bot is online in the member list.

After the first real buyer

Look at Orders before you change the product. Most "I didn't get it" messages are a closed DM. Re-send. Do not paste the file into the channel.

When you are hitting 3 orders on Free, that is the moment to look at Basic, not the morning you create the product. The numbers are on cartcord.com/pricing. Setup screenshots and the command list are on cartcord.com/docs.

The afternoon usually breaks in one of these places

The bot joined and the dashboard is empty. You are logged into a different Discord account than the one that manages the server. Log out, log in with the admin account, and look again.

/store posts and the Buy button errors. PayPal is not connected on that server, or the secret is from sandbox. Payments in the dashboard should say connected, in live mode, before you pin anything.

You made four products and the fourth save failed. Free allows 3 active products. Deactivate one, or move that server to Basic if you already know you need the room.

Verify and attach payments to the selected store

The store owner connects matching Live PayPal credentials in Manage store → Settings, verifies them and explicitly attaches the account to this store. Repeat attachment for each owned store. Production has no Sandbox toggle. Cartcord takes 0% sales commission; PayPal processing fees, holds and payment-method availability still apply.
