Discord role not given after payment: check the role list first

By Cartcord Team · Troubleshooting · 2026-10-19
A Discord role that does not show up after payment is usually not a mystery bug. Discord blocked the bot from assigning it. The buyer still paid. The order is sitting there waiting for a re-send after you fix the permission.
Do this before you refund anyone.
Look at the role order
Open Server Settings, then Roles. Find the Cartcord role and the role you are selling. The bot's role has to be above the role it grants. Above means higher in that list, not "I think Administrator covers it." Your personal admin rights do not raise the bot.
Drag Cartcord up. Confirm the bot still has Manage Roles. Save.
Then open the order in the Cartcord dashboard and re-send. The grant runs again. You should see the role on the buyer within a few seconds if they are in the server.
Read the reason if it fails again
The delivery result is more specific than "failed."
If the buyer is not in the server, the role cannot be applied. Ask them to join, then re-send. Leaving and rejoining with a new account is a different Discord id, and the order is tied to the id that paid.
Renaming a Discord role does not change its ID; deleting it does. Inspect the saved order and intended role before retrying. Changing a product does not promise to rewrite an existing purchase's immutable delivery snapshot.
If Discord refused the change, you are back to role order or Manage Roles. A role that is managed by another integration can also refuse a normal assign. Pick a role you created, not one a game bot owns.
If it says rate limited, wait a minute and re-send once. Do not click it twenty times.
DMs are a separate problem
A missing DM is not the same as a missing role. The role call does not depend on the receipt message. Still check DMs, because buyers often say "I got nothing" when they got the role and missed the message, or the reverse. Have them look at their profile in the server, not only their DM list.
When a refund is actually the right move
The merchant issues refunds in PayPal. Cartcord records verified completed provider refunds, preserves access for partial amounts and closes new delivery access after cumulative full refunds. Eligible saved Cartcord role grants are queued for removal, but the new worker is still rolling out; check completion with support. Pre-existing or overlapping valid grants are protected. Already downloaded copies and external URLs cannot be recalled.
Do not refund a pending order just because PayPal has not finished. Check PayPal for the capture first. If the money is not there, there is nothing to refund and nothing to deliver.
How to keep it from happening on the next tier
Every new paid role goes under the bot in the list, the moment you create it. People add "VIP 2" at the top of the role list because Discord puts new roles high, and then the bot is suddenly underneath. Glance at the list whenever you add a tier.
Review readiness in the store Overview, then use a dedicated buyer account and a merchant-approved test process to verify the intended payment and delivery. Production requires Live credentials; do not switch a customer's store into Sandbox. Never ask an already-paid customer to buy again to diagnose an uncertain payment. Keep any test refund separate from real customer support.
The setup article for selling the role in the first place is on this blog, and the short product page is cartcord.com/sell-discord-roles.
A second account is the whole test
If the test account also gets nothing, stop refunding customers and fix the bot role. Re-send the test order after the drag. Then re-send the real orders from the same afternoon. They are still in Orders. You do not need the buyers to pay again.
Write the result in the order note if someone else on your staff handles support. "Role was under the bot, moved, re-sent" saves the next person from refunding a fixed order.
