Discord store bot: what it has to do before you invite it

By Cartcord Team · Tutorial · 2026-10-20
A Discord store bot is worth adding when members can see a price, pay, and get the product without you copying a PayPal link into a ticket. If the bot only posts a button that still dumps the buyer into your DMs, you do not have a store. You have a prettier queue.
People search "discord store bot" when the manual version has already started to hurt. Someone pays, the ticket sits for an hour, the file goes to the wrong person, or two buyers get the same license key. The bot is supposed to close that gap.
What a store bot is supposed to handle
A useful one does four jobs and leaves the rest of Discord alone.
It shows the catalog inside the server. On Cartcord that is /store and /products. /store posts the products with a Buy button and a link to the public store page. /products is the shorter list, with price, stock, and a short id.
It starts checkout for a named product. /buy takes a product name or that short id. The buyer then pays on PayPal. Cartcord does not invent a second wallet.
It delivers after PayPal confirms the money. The five types are a download URL you host, an access link, one license key from your stock, a Discord role, or a manual order where you still do the work and both sides get told.
It writes the order down. You need a record with the buyer, the amount, and whether delivery finished. "I paid" should not depend on scrolling chat.
What it should not pretend to do
A File product can deliver an external URL, whose host controls access, or use Basic+ protected file versions from the existing product editor. Managed files are limited to 25 MiB each and 250 MiB reserved storage per store. Eligible buyers request 60-second authorized links through Your purchases; already downloaded copies remain outside Cartcord's control.
It does not take a cut of the sale. You pay a monthly plan. PayPal still charges its normal processing fee. That fee is PayPal's, not ours.
The merchant issues refunds in PayPal. Cartcord records verified completed provider refunds, preserves access for partial amounts and closes new delivery access after cumulative full refunds. Eligible saved Cartcord role grants are queued for removal, but the new worker is still rolling out; check completion with support. Pre-existing or overlapping valid grants are protected. Already downloaded copies and external URLs cannot be recalled.
It will not DM a buyer who has DMs closed. The order stays pending. You re-send from the dashboard after they turn DMs on. The key or link is not pasted into the public channel as a backup.
Before you invite it
You need a server where you can add bots, a PayPal app with a live Client ID and Secret, and at least one product you can describe in a sentence. Free covers 3 active products and 3 completed orders a month, which is enough to buy your own test item and see the DM arrive.
Put the Cartcord role above any role you plan to sell. Discord will not let a bot assign a role that sits higher than the bot. That single drag in Server Settings, Roles, fixes most "they paid and got nothing" role tickets.
Pick one channel for the store and tell people to type /store there. Pin that sentence. You will still get the question, but you can point at the pin.
How this compares with a ticket bot
A ticket bot is fine for support. It is a bad cash register. Every sale becomes a conversation: ask what they want, send a note, wait, check PayPal, send the file, mark the ticket. That works at two sales a week. It falls apart when two people pay in the same minute.
A store bot is the opposite shape. The catalog is already there. Payment is checked against the product and the amount. Delivery runs because the payment cleared, not because a mod was awake.
Where to go next
If you sell files, read the download setup. If you sell keys, the stock rules matter more than the embed color. If you sell a VIP role, fix the role order before you announce the price. The pricing page on cartcord.com/pricing lists the product and order caps so you are not guessing at month end.
Questions people ask after they install one
Does the buyer need a Cartcord account? No. They sign in with Discord so the DM and the role have somewhere to go. They do not pick a plan.
Can I run this in several servers? Yes. Each server has its own products, PayPal connection, and plan. One login can switch between them. Upgrading server A does not raise the cap on server B.
What if /store is silent? Check the bot is in the member list, then check that channel allows it to send messages, embed links, and use slash commands. Discord can take a few minutes to show new commands after an invite. Try a second channel before you reinstall anything.
Which plan is the store bot on? The bot commands are on every plan, including Free. Free is 3 active products and 3 orders a month. That is a test, not a launch. Basic at $29.99 is the first plan that fits a small paid server. The full table is on cartcord.com/pricing.
Recover an existing purchase
Buyers sign in with the original Discord account at cartcord.com/purchases, find the order and choose View delivery. This is private purchase recovery, including when DMs were blocked. Payment and delivery states are separate. New recovery/staff bot commands are rolling out, so use the web route if a command is not available.
