    Cartcord versus Gumroad

Gumroad's published pricing includes percentage and fixed components and a distinct discovery-sales rate. Cartcord charges a flat store plan and uses the seller's PayPal account. Compare processing, hosting, tax responsibilities, buyer recovery and your actual order count before treating a headline fee difference as a complete saving.

Compare the whole service, not a percentage in isolation

Gumroad publishes direct-sale pricing with a percentage and fixed component, and a different charge for discovery sales. Read its current terms and the additional costs that apply to your transaction. Cartcord's flat plan is not the same service arrangement: product payments use your PayPal account, and Cartcord does not become the merchant of record or take over the seller's tax and dispute responsibilities.

For an illustrative $3,000 in sales, a ten-percent component is $300 before fixed fees and any other applicable costs. That calculation does not establish a complete saving for every seller. Include your order count, processor fees, hosting, tax work, refunds and support. If a marketplace brings customers you would otherwise need to acquire, account for that service rather than assuming the audiences are interchangeable.

    Match delivery to the product

A Discord audience can start with /store, /products or /buy and recover eligible purchases using the original Discord account. Choose a file, link, key, role or manual workflow that matches what the customer receives. A protected upload requires an eligible plan; optional single-use links do not stop a downloaded copy from being shared.

Software sellers can opt into signed verification, but the application must enforce its checks. Community access uses one-time payments unless a separate released billing product provides renewals. Do not move an automatically renewing membership to a one-time role listing and continue calling it a subscription. Explain the new access, update and support terms before the customer pays.

    Use draft import as preparation

Cartcord can preview supported public HTTPS Gumroad product data with a USD offer, or validate an authorized CSV. The resulting products stay hidden. Private files, keys, customers, order history and memberships are outside this import. A successful draft save is not evidence that the original product's delivery destination or billing agreement has moved.

Keep the old order records, support obligations and any provider payout process intact. Configure and test each new product, including failed delivery and purchase recovery. Start with a small permitted catalog and communicate where new sales will happen. Preserve access for existing customers until you have a concrete, tested plan for their entitlements rather than relying on a platform-name comparison.

Separate an audience move from a checkout move

A creator with an established Gumroad audience should identify how customers discover each product before changing the payment destination. Direct newsletter traffic, search visitors, marketplace discovery and an existing Discord community have different acquisition costs. A storefront does not automatically bring the audience of the platform it replaces. If most buyers do not use Discord, include the account and support steps they will encounter in your evaluation. Test the public product page and explain the delivery identity before asking those customers to purchase.

Consider a limited new release rather than moving the entire back catalog at once. A creator might keep an existing publishing arrangement while selling a separate permitted community resource through Cartcord. Make it easy to tell which purchase includes which updates, files and support. Avoid identical product names with conflicting licenses on two systems. The useful question is whether the new checkout serves a real group of buyers with clear benefits, not whether every sale can be redirected to a different fee model.

Model small orders and merchant responsibilities

Compare several plausible months instead of multiplying one percentage by annual revenue. Use your actual order sizes and provider terms, including fixed processing charges where applicable. An inexpensive template sold hundreds of times behaves differently from a high-value consulting deliverable sold twice. Include refunds and currency conversion in separate rows. Keep the assumptions editable, and label calculator results as illustrations rather than invoices. A fee comparison without order count can hide a material part of the cost for low-priced products.

Then assign responsibility for tax handling, disputes, payout support and customer records under each arrangement. Cartcord routes the released checkout to the seller's PayPal account and charges a store plan; it does not take over the merchant-of-record role. Confirm the services and obligations in Gumroad's current terms before treating a difference in platform charges as a net saving. If you need professional advice about your own tax or consumer obligations, obtain it for the actual business and customer locations rather than relying on a generic comparison page.

    Preserve download and update promises

Create a private record of the files, versions and licenses promised to existing customers. An imported product description does not move hosted assets or establish a new right to distribute them. For the new listing, configure the actual delivery location and test access from outside the seller's own account. Check that example screenshots, font dependencies, plugins or bonus files are either included or clearly excluded. If updates are part of the offer, state how buyers will receive them and how long the commitment lasts.

Keep the original purchase records available for historical recovery and refunds. Tell buyers whether support continues through the old product page, a new contact route or both. Do not require a second payment merely because a creator has changed tools. Before moving traffic, verify a new eligible order, its delivery result and recovery through the original Discord identity. Choose Cartcord when that workflow fits the audience and product; retain the existing service where its hosting, discovery or membership behavior remains part of what customers expect.

    Sources and comparison assumptions

Checked on October 24, 2026. Plans, eligibility and fees can change. Compare your actual payment method, order count, taxes, hosting and support requirements. Cartcord's zero sales commission does not remove processor costs or make Cartcord the merchant of record.

    Compare your monthly cost scenarios

Enter your actual fees. These are editable USD scenarios, not provider quotes. Include processor charges in both scenarios. Compare equivalent services and permitted products; required platform checkout still applies.

Enter every fee, including zero where applicable. Use non-negative amounts, whole orders and percentages up to 100.

Taxes, refunds, disputes, conversion, payout and support costs need separate review. Cartcord sales commission is 0%; the store plan and processor costs remain.

    Questions

Does Cartcord take a percentage of sales?

No. Cartcord charges a flat server plan and 0% of the order. PayPal's processing fee still applies.

    Who receives the buyer's payment?

The seller's own PayPal account. Cartcord does not hold the funds.

    Which commands do buyers use?

    Only /store, /products, and /buy.

    Are paid roles a subscription?

Role payments are one-time. Optional timed passes require a ready expiry service; new timed setup is blocked while it is unavailable. Recurring buyer billing is not released.

How should I choose a plan?

Choose by your actual product count, order volume and required features. Review the current pricing table and include payment processing and support costs in the comparison.
